Some last minute changes to the final proposed redistricting map is out now and some communities in Milton have been able to enact some change. Whether or not this version gets approved without any revisions will remain to be seen but this version might satisfy most of the disgruntled parents along Birmingham Highway.
Communities like Enniskerry, Taylor Glen, Richmond Glen and Triple Crownwill be going to Milton High School if this final proposal gets approved. White Columns and Holcombes Farm will be in districted for the new Bethany Bend High School.
Additionally, there are some of the smaller communities near downtown Alpharetta, along Canton Street, Mayfield Rd. and Old Milton Pkwy that have moved from Milton High School to the new Bethany Bend High School.

The final version, which will be approved by the Fulton County School Board, will be released in June and will take effect in August of 2012.

Bob:
Interested in your thoughts, as to how the redistricting will impact housing pricing. For example, those subdivisions that were previously going to Milton HS and now going to the new high schoool.
Joe, I honestly home values won’t be impacted by the redistricting. The people most upset are a handful of the parents in each of the schools, and they certainly have the right to voice their concerns. We don’t typically hear from parents who think “both schools will offer a great education, I’m not worried”, and there is a lot of them out there. We work with a large number of buyers moving into the area from other states and they may have heard about a specific school, like Milton HS, but they typically define their home search needs by saying “we want good schools”.
It would be a different story if we were being redistricted into something like the City of Atlanta Schools, but the new school will have the same demographic, socio-economic background and level of parental involvement. And just like there were ruffled feathers when Birmingham Falls EM opened and kids were moved around then, today everyone is happy with where they are. After it’s all over, we’ll forget about this issue and can go back to other arguments like traffic, development and Milton County!
Good insight. Thanks Bob.
